Greennx 2008 Green Building Conference on May 15, 2008 at Chan Centre, UBC, will provide a full day of comprehensive overview, learning and discussion on latest hot issues on sustainable cities, development, design and technologies. - Brent Toderian, City of Vancouver's Director of City Planning will speak about the sustainable initiatives and policies in Vancouver such as EcoDensity which will set new directions for sustainable building development in Vancouver.
- Andrew Pearson, founder of Aviawest, developer for the Parkside project in Victoria targeting for LEED Platinum certification will speak on developer's perspective for sustainable developments.
- Marty Donkervoort, President and CEO of Inner City Development Inc. from Winnipeg will speak about his successful experience as a builder and social entrepreneur in sustainable building projects.
- James Cheng, award-winning Vancouver architect and principal of James K.M. Cheng Architects Inc. who is renowned for his high rise residential building projects in Canada, USA and other parts of the world will speak on sustainable design for high-rise residential developments.
- Peitsa Hirvonen, founder of SESCO Electrical Inc., US Green Wiring expert, past chair of Green Building Committee of local chapter of National Association of Remodelling Industry will speak on Green Wiring and Healthy Building, a deep green aspect beyond existing LEED certification requirements.
Speakers for Session 2 (1:30pm - 3:00pm): - Gerry Epp, partner of Fast + Epp and an award-winning design-builder will speak about his company's sustainable design-build structural projects including the 2010 Winter Olympics Richmond Oval Roof Structure as well as sustainable use of wood that would otherwise be considered as waste such as the pine beetle infected wood.
- Dr. Guido Wimmers of Equilibrium Consulting, architect formerly with melis+melis+wimmers who has designed and built high standard energy efficient buildings in Austria, Germany and Italy will speak on the Passive House, the European standard for net-zero energy buildings.
- Maureen Connelly, Research Program Head, Centre for the Advancement of Green Roof Technology, School of Construction and the Environment, British Columbia Institute of Technology will speak on Green Roof and Green Walls.
The Next Green Leap Forum (3pm - 4:30pm): This session will focus on discussion of visons for The Next Green Leap. Speaker: Cascadia Region Green Building Council Vancouver Branch Committee Co-Chair will present Green Challenge Initiatives for Schools targeted to provide support and educational resource for school age children for learning sustainability in school. |
