The Green Building Tradeshow Opening Ceremony at the Chan Centre for the Performing Arts was a successful event attracting about 700 participants. About 500 participants turned out at the Chan Centre while 200 more participants tuned in for the live webcast on May 1, 2007.

Nellie Cheng, Secretary of the World Green Building Council made the welcome address. She cited her recent effort in helping China to form their Green Building Council and announced the news about the establishment of the secretariat of the World Green Building Council in Toronto, Canada.

Thomas Mueller, the President of Canada Green Building Council presented on “The Green Development Shift: How Canada Green Building Council is Transforming the Building Industry”. (Click here to see copy of presentation.)

The Tradeshow Organizer explained the new hybrid model of the tradeshow, being partly physical and partly digital. The digital part of the show is the webcast and the online exhibition which allows year round viewing to create a long-life show. Free online publishing tools were offered to members to share experience and collaborate to accelerate the advancement of the green building industry. (To sign up as free member to share expereince, please click here.)

Keynote speaker William McDonough presented a speech on "Cradle to Cradle" rich with inspirational quotes, photos and examples of his work. Questions received from the web and those from the audience at the Chan Centre were addressed in detail by William McDonough. 

The event ended with announcement by Tom Osdoba who highlighted many more upcoming events happening during the 30 Days of Sustainability in Vancouver.

Many attendees lined up for the book signing at the lobby of the Chan Centre and met the keynote speaker William McDonough after the event.
