British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT) shares experience on the Myths and Facts of Green Roofs as shown in a slide presentation titled "The Myths and Facts about Green Roofs" which is now available as PDF download in the publication section of the Green Building Tradeshow at www.buildingtradeshow.com. In BCIT's presentation, the following are highlighted: green roof types, green roof principals, how leaks can be avoided, growing medium and vegetation. It is noted that urban rooftops are similar to exposed windy sites with extreme temperature and moisture stresses. It is also noted that green roofs reduce thermal stress on roof membranes and can slow down the aging of roof membrane based on BCIT's research (charts and statistics of roof membrane temperature for green roofs compared to non-green roof in Vancouver are included in BCIT's presenatation). |
