Post Date: May 11, 2008

Gerald A. Epp, M.Eng., P.Eng., P.E., Partner of Fast +Epp Structural Engineers in Vancouver and an award-winning design-builder will speak about his comapny's sustainable design-build structural projects including the 2010 Winter Olympics Richmond oval roof structure as well as sustainable use of wood that would otherwise be considered as waste, such as the pine beetle infected wood, at the Greennx 2008 Green Building Conference on May 15 at UBC.

Gerald Epp has been responsible for many building projects of all types and sizes, some of which have received national and international recognition for engineering innovation, including numerous awards. Currently Gerald is structural engineer for the unique Arena Stage Theatre project in Washington, D.C.

In recognition of substantial contribution to the timber industry, the firm recently received the BC Wood Champion and BC Engineer Awards from the Canadian Wood Council. Gerald is also president of StructureCraft Builders Inc., a company which, since 1998, has been design-builder of high quality, long span exposed timber structures.

Gerald’s presentation will highlight his experiences as structural designer and builder of some complex and highly visual timber structures, including the design and construction challenges on the 6 acre, all-wood roof for the Speed Skating Oval for the 2010 Winter Olympics currently near completion in Richmond, British Columbia, and the unique roof structures and tall façade for the 2003 Central City Project in Surrey, British Columbia.
